Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is a popular weekend getaway from New Delhi, Gurgaon , Faridabad & Noida , Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary has been declared as National park by Haryana Government. Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is located in Gurgaon District in Haryana State, Sultanpur is located at 40 kms distance  from Dhaula Kuan in Delhi and 15 km from Gurgaon on the Gurgaon - Farukh Nagar Road. This Bird Sanctuary , ideal for birding and bird watchers, is best visited in winters when a large number of migratory birds come here.

Every year more than 100 migratory bird species arrive at Sultanpur in search of feeding grounds and to pass the winter. In winter Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary provides a picturesque panorama of migratory birds such as Siberian Cranes, Greater Flamingo, Ruff, Black winged Stilt, Common Teal, Common Greenshank, Northern Pintail, Yellow Wagtail etc. It takes 1.5 hrs to take a full round of Sulanpur Bird Sanctuary on foot. Tourist can have a glance of  Neelgai (Blue Bull) and Black Buck too.

Facilities for bird lovers
  • Education & Interpretation centre which has many attractive and coloured photographs of the birds visiting here. The photographs have a brief description and information.
  • The Salim Ali centre has been set here in the memory of the world famous ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali. The centre has photographs, writeups, books and his personal belongings.
  • Watch tower There are 3 watch towers which offer panoramic view of the park and birdsOne is near the entry gate and the other two are near the lake.
  • A nature trail of 3 kms in length runs around the lake to help bird viewing.

Importance of the park
It is famous for its migratory park. Every winter the park is full of several migratory species. The early bird start arriving in September and most of them are here by November. Till the following March & April they will use park as resting place since their home land is in Europe, Siberia and Central Asia are inhabitable, ice coverd so there there is no place for the birds.

During summer and monsoon months also park is inhabited by many local birds. Every year hundreds of painted storks and egrets breed here. Grand Sarus cranes also breed during July-August. In Sultanpur around 250 bird species have been recorded. 150 are resident while the rest are migratory. Local migratory birds may use this park as a stop over point before heading down to south.
