Best time to visit
The place is warm being a coastal region. The temp varies around 32 to 34 degrees. Post monsoon months are very humid.

What to see

Guhagar came into headlines recently with the Enron Power Plant being set up here. The Guhagar beach is a quiet and clean beach where you can take a bindaas stroll in the mornings. The view of the 4 km Enron jetty is one view you carn't miss. The Asgoli side shows you scenes from the everday lives of fishermen getting ready for their routine. There is a kids play area at the entrance as well as some shacks selling coconut water and other snacks.

15 kms from Guhagar is Hevdi which is another small beach. There are no crowds or stalls to greet you here except for a small temple. The rocks behind the temple takes you to the Bamangal which is the rock formtion in the cliff that channels water into the rocks and throws it as a fountain a few kms high during a high tide.

The way to Hevdi passes through Valneshwar beach a white sand kissed beach. 18 kms away is Anjanvel which is a small fishing village, From here you can trek to Gopalgarh which housed Shivaji and his troops once, the rock staircase cuts the route up and its takes a hour to climb to the top. Ahead of the fort is the lighthouse which is open from 4.30 to 6.30pm which gives one of the best views of the coastline.

If you are a trekker take up a ferry to Dabhol from the Dhopave jetty which is  kms away from Anjanvel. A hour long trek takes you to Chandika Devi temple. The scenery is much to be enjoyed in the route.

Where to Stay
The market area running parallel to the beach has many homestay options which is quiet cheap. Hotel Nisarga is a family run hotel. More info at www.nisargresortguhagar.com. Hotel Annapurna is also a good option (02359-240512). Hindustan Resort is 7 kms away on the way to Anjanvel. Know more here - www.hindustanresort.com. Hotel Rajgad is just 1 km away, more details here - www.hotelrajgadguhagar.com

Food
Konkani food is the main attraction here. Home cooked meals are well advertised outside the gates of homes. The chilled drink of kokum and coconut milk is a speciality here. Hotel Suruchi is in the market and is a vegetarian hotel. Hotel Annapurna has good options in fish as prawn curries, fish fries with bhakris. Modaks are the sweet dishes to be had here.
