Connected by road to Madras (703 km), Madurai (242 km), and other major towns in South India. Kanyakumari is on the Thiruvananthapuram - Kanyakumari section of the southern railway. Nearest airport is Thiruvananthapuram (93 km). 


What to See:


The Kumari Amman Temple 
This temple is dedicated to Goddess Parvati. She is worshipped here in the form of Devi Kanya- the virgin Goddess who fasted for the companionship of Lord Shiva. The footsteps of the virgin Goddess can be seen on Sri Padaparai Rock, one of the two rocks that reaches out to the ocean. The Vivekananda Rock Memorial is also located here. 

Vattakottai  (Circular Fort)
Vattakottai is an 18th century fort towering over the sea. It is located 6 km from Kaniyakumari and the sea here is calm and suitable for bathing.

Suchindram  
Situated at a distance of 13 Kms from Kaniyakumari, Suchindram has the Thanumalayan temple which is a repository of art treasures of  many kingdoms. The deity in the form of a Linga, denotes Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. 9th cetury's Inscriptions can be found in this temple. The temple has musical pillars and a massive statue of Lord Hanuman.

Udayagiri Fort 
The Udayagiri Fort was built by King Marthanda Varma. Situated at adistance of 34 Kms from Kaniyakumari, this fort has a foundry for manufacturing guns. 

Nagaraja Temple 
Situated just 20 Kms from the city, the nagaraja Temple at Nagarkoil is a marvellous temple with the main deity in the form of Nagaraja. Shrines are dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva.

Padmanabhapuram Palace 
A magnificent wooden palace of the Travancore Maharajas, Padmanabhapuram is located just 45Kms from Kaniyakumari.

Courtallam Falls 
The water here is believed to contain medicinal properties. The Courtallam falls are located at a distance of 137 Kms from Kanyakumari.
