Bangalore to Mangalore is maddening traffic. The distance is about 400 kms with the initial few kms on NH75, then to poorly marked diversions and the four way disappearing into narrow and busy highway. Potholes, gravel patches took us through Kunigal, Belluru and Hassan. Then we hit the Western ghats the rain gods pour in and the roads pave way through lush green trees. Mushromed hills and tiny waterfalls start to appear.
Bangalore - Udupi in Mangalore is 405 kms and takes around 7.5 hrs.
Route - Mangalore - Hassan - Western ghats - Bantwal - Mallar - Udupi
Stop in Udupi for an overnight break. The next day after crossing Kundapura beyond Udupi we were led to the road where right was the river and left was the sea. Took rest at Turtle bay. The Arabian sea and Sowparnika river, here there are water sports like snorkelling, scuba diving while you can just walk along the scenic coast. Its a place to rest and have the tasty delicacies. The view from here is superb. Moving on at Karwar the sea dissapeared and then reappeared after a short distance away at the border twon of Goa. Karwar is a naval base and its evident the roads are well marked. Another 87 kms we reached Madgaon.
Udupi - Goa is 293 kms and takes 6 hours.
Route - Udupi - Kundapura - Murudeshwar - Ankola - Karwar - Cancona - Madgaon
