Munnar a hill station on the western ghats has lakes, reservoirs, forests and tea estates. There is a wildlife sanctuary in Eravikulam - Rajamala area and the Chinnar sanctuary.



How to reach

By Air -  The nearest airport is at Kochi (130 kms).
By Rail - The nearest railway station is Kochi 130 kms away
By Road -  Well connected to all major centres of the state with bus services.

Places to see

DTPC provides boating facilities at Old Munnar. These include row and pedal boats, motor boats and launches. Bicycles are also provided on hire. Tea factory visits to any unit of Tata Tea Ltd. is also possible with prior appointment. A very interesting entertainment option is Munnar sightseeing and golf helicopter holiday.

Courses of 3-5 days are conducted by trained instructors of National Adventure Foundation.

Eravikulam National Park
Various species of mammals have been recorded in the park including Nilgiri Tahr, Gaur, Indian Muntjac and Sambar Deer. Golden Jackal, Jungle Cat, Wild dog, Dhole, leopard and tiger are the main predators.  Anamudi (2695 m, the highest peak in India south of the Himalayas is inside this park. Many perennial streams criss-cross the park.

Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary
The spectacular Thoovanam water falls lie deep within the Sanctuary on the Pambar River. Many species of mammals like Panthers and Spotted deer, Elephants, Gaur, Tigers, Sambar Deer, Common langur, Bonnet Macaque, Hanuman monkey, threatened Nilgiri Tahr,etc are seen here. The Marayoor Sandalwood forest is located here.

Ideal time to Visit - Anytime round the year.


Winters in December to March and monsoons in May are the best time to go to Kerala. The day time temperature is about 32 degrees and night temperature drops to the lowest of 20 degrees. The hottest months are April, May and June, where the temperature soars above 36 degrees with high humidity.
