How to reach

Kovalam is linked by road with Thiruvananthapuram. There is a regular daily bus service between the two towns.

Places to see

The Light House Beach
The southernmost beach in Kovalam, known as the Lighthouse Beach is the most preferred tourist spot. The lodging here is cheap, retaurants offer all facilities with reasonable rates. In short, this is the place for an ideal vacation. There is a light house here at the southern end of the beach. The view from this place is absolutely fabulous.

The Middle Beach
This beach functions as a base for local fisherman. There is a five star resort, The Ashok Radisson, in the vicinity. The third beach which lies north of Ashok just has a few old fashioned fishing vessels.  It seems as if times have not changed much here.  It is not advisable to swim in these beaches. But if you are so inclined then do follow the warnings of the safety flags. Of course, you can spend your days lazing around on the beach, soaking the sun or enjoying drinks at the cafes.

You can shop for crafts and carpets here, mainly Tibetan, Kashmiri and Rajasthani. You can also find many Yoga schools, massage parlours and clothing stores here.

The best time to visit Kovalam beach is between November and February.
