Kannur is one of the most important sea coast towns of Kerala. A town of historical importance it was once a premier port of ancient Kerala. Marco Polo reffered to Cannore as a great emporia of spice trade. It came into the political limelight in the 15th century with the arrival of the Portuguese.

55 kms from Cannanore at a height of 865 ft with a conspicuous isolated cluster of hills. At the foothills in an old burial chamber and a cave. Further uphill is an ancient mosque.
Tellicherry
60 kms north of Calicut here the East India Company established its settlement in the Malabar coast in 1683. Tellicherry Fort was built in the early 18th century. The German Scholar Dr. Hermen Gundert, built a church on Neltur Hill in 1889.
Mahe
Near Tellicherry mahe was a trading centre established by the French and the 17th century.
Parassinikadavu
The picturesque place 22 kms from Kannur The Muthapan temple is an important pilgrim center in the world and the Theyyam dance is performed here daily. The Parasinnikadavu Snake Park is near the temple.
