The ruins of Rajmahal and Jami Masjid near Sahebganj built by Mughal emperor's trusted general Raja Maan Singh in 1952 attest to an unsung magnificence of Mughal architecture. It is said that at one time the Jami Masjid was the most beautiful building in all of Gaur. Made the capital of Bengal by Shah Shuja the second son of Emperor Shah Jahan between 1639-1660, Rajmahal is believed to be the place from where an English doctor, Dr Gabriel Boughton sought a farman from Shah Shuja to trade freely from Bengal port of Kolkatta in return for his services.
