In the Chaibasa region visit any haat for grass woven into bowls, mats, baskets, boxes or umbrellas. Pick up wooden combs, clay toys and mystic figurines, jugs, masks and pots painted in vibrant hues. Nearer Saraikela region look out for the unique Chau masks and the Dokra metal craft. Tribal communities also make arresting products in black metal like kansa serving bowls with matt black finish on the outside and shining gold inside. Don't forget to pack a ledra (sacred quilt) made from old saris stitched together and tribal jewellery crafted in gold, silver or white metal. When tired drink the handiya a local brew which the locals believe keeps the stomach cool and wards off ailments especially jaundice.
