Our first visit to a Bird Sanctuary
November 2009
The Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary in Gurgaon (Haryana) can be termed as a neaby getaway option for Delhiites. Located just 50 kms away from Delhi we tried to find out more about the place through websites and blogs. Although is has a dedicated one for its own - www.sultanpurbirdsanctuary.com. We were not able to find a definate route guide or map to reach the place.
Below are the route we took and a few pictures.

Delhi is perhaps the most important metropolitan city in India. Being the capital city of the country it is the seat of power. Through the annals of history, Delhi has been the most coveted place for the Indians as well as the foreign invaders. The city has a large population and it is a melting pot for people all over the country who have come here and made it their own.
How to reach:
- We started from Delhi.
- Took State Highway to reach Rajeev Chowk. take a right turn aand drive into Gurgaon city.
- After nearly 1 kms on your left is a petrol pump. Around 100 mts after the petrol pump take a left turn, Go straight until you hut a 'T' intersection, or enquire for Pataudi road.
- Since the flyover is under construction take the Pataudi road.
- Travel around 15 kms on Pataudi road until we reached Wazirpur.
- From there take a right turn towords Farukhh nagar.
- Onward travel of 8 kms (Railway crossing enroute) you will find a small tractor showroom on left and food godown on ur right.
- Take a right turn to cross the food godown and take the parallel road. Drive around 4 kms to reach the sanctuary. The Sanctuary greets you with a big board and a cafe and sanctuary having two seperate gates. Take the second gate to the sanctuary.
Tips
Ask anyone for Farukh nagar. On the Pataudi road ask for Wazirpur, from there right turn takes you to Farukh nagar. None will be able to answer you if you ask Sultan pur Bird Sacntuary - ask for the place it is loacted Farukh nagar.
The sanctuary has lots of birds - some resident and some migratory. Locating one is not difficult at all. There are watch towers which offer a panoramic view of the place. The path to walk has also been built and it took us nearly 3 hours to trod through the entire path gazing at the birds. Sultanpur Bird Sactuary has parking and other facilities like toilets and drinking water for visitors. The Rosy Pelican Tourist Guest house provides accomodation as well as it has a restaurant serving food and snacks.
Winter being the best time to visit brings in migratory birds from Siberia, Europe and Afghanistan. We could spot a few birds like Kingfishers, Common Teal, Northern Shoveler, Wagtails, Mynah, Dove, Egret and more
