Udaipur has been hailed as a city of peace "Venice of East'. The smiling capital of the Sisodia Rajputs ever since Maharana Udai Singh II laid the foundation stone in 1559 AD. Udaipur City Palace & Museum





 
It is located inside the City palace. This museum is also known Pratap museum. Built by Maharana Udai Singh, one cannot miss it  out. Located on the bank of the Lake Pichola it gives us the view of Jag Niwas or popularly called the Lake Palace. Jag Mandir is located on one corner and the city of Udaipur on the other end.

Its enterance is through a 3 arched gate which leads you into the beautiful courtyards The peacock courtyard is especially beautiful with its beautifully decorated walls. The Bhim Vilas has paintings of Lord Krishna. There are many beautiful palaces located inside like the Dilkhush mahal, Sheesh mahal, Moti mahal and so on. The guesthouses of the city palace, Shiv Niwas Palace, and the Fateh Prakash Palace have been converted into heritage hotels.


Destinations in Rajasthan
The City Palace has a very memorable collection. There is the armour museum where there are weapons, shields, protective gears that which belonged to Maharana Pratap. Antique paintings of Mewar, coins, sculptures, wall paintings, potraits and the turban of Emperor Shah Jahan is also on display here. A major part of the City Palace is the museum. Dont miss the Zenana Mahal where paintings, photographs, armour of the Maharanas of Mewar and Sisodia are displayed.

On its wall the Moti Mahal has beautiful mirrorworks, the palace of Krishna has been a witness to the tragic death of Krishna, a princess of striking beauty who poisoned herself to avert a bloody battle for her hand by rival Rajput princes.

From the top of the palace a panoramic view of the city of Udaipur with magnificent Lake Palace in lake Pichhola in the backdrop of Aravalli hills is breathtaking.


Shiv Niwas Palace
In the early twentieth century Shiv Niwas Palace was exculsively reserved for visiting dignitaries and guests of the royal families. The view of Lake Pichola from the suites walks along the Promenade and quiet candle lit dinners will make you forget that you are in the heart of hot and dry Rajasthan.

The crescent shaped palace houses Imperial suites, Royal suites, Historic suites and terrace suites. Each suite is splendidly unique and exquisitely different from the other in shape, design and decor. Experience the original in chandeliers, carpets, period furniture, glass inlay work and eighteenth-nineteeth century paintings.
Fateh Prakash Palace

Its like being cocooned in authentic royal luxury at the Fateh Prakash Palace the grand heritage palace. The warmth of royal hospitality greets you as you walk along the corridoors with large paintings of the Mewar school that florished in the 17 th to 19th century. The lake facing suites in the turrets are suitably appointed with four poster beds and period furniture festooned with maroon and velvet curtains and delicate silk tussels.

The legacy has been kept alive since the early decades of the 20th century when Maharana Faten Singh used to be the royal occupant of this palace. Today the Durbar Hall and Gallery Restaurant has added a charesteristic touch of class to Fateh Prakash Palace. The three lined dovecote with its lake front rooms has become an integrated extension of the palace. Sunset view terrace overlooking the shimmering Lake Pichola serves sumptuous meals and light refreshments throughout the day.
The Crystal Gallery

The Crystals at Fateh Prakash Palace in the City Palace Complex is simply enthralling. The gallery is nearly 130 years old and the collection of Oslers crystals from F and C Osler Company Birmingam in England is worth a see. The gallery is open to visitors now as it was not earlier. The sofa sets, the bed with rich artfacts chairs, fountains, all in crystal cut are very beautiful. There is also the royal perfume, bottles, cups plates, glasses, coasters all are made of glass and are simply marvellous to watch. The Durbar hall next to the crystal gallery has the potraits of the rulers of Udaipur.
