He was found of sports, built many buildings, and even has his airport for his collection of chartered planes. He founded the State Bank of Patiala, was the captain of the Indian Cricket team, used to Rolls Royce to dump garbage when the company denied him one and made the cricket ground at Chail which is the highest cricket ground in the world.

The story of Patiala peg takes back to the 1900s when tent pegging on the ground sitting on a galloping horse was a sport. Once the Viceroy teams up against
The maharajah of Patiala. The host team desperate to win the match had a party the previous day and offered much larger measures of whiskey to the opponent team and replaced their pegs with smaller sized ones. The host wins and when the other team complians the king unaware thinks its about the peg (measure) of whisky served the party night. From then on this generous measure is referred to as the Patiala peg.
