Best time to visit Shimla
Best time to visit Shimla is March to June. In Summer (Max temp is 30 degrees), cold in winter (Min temp is -3 degrees). Cotton and light woolens are suggested for the summer and heavy winter clothing for winter.

    Local tweeds, shawls, jackets, Lahauli woolen socks, Himachal's distinctive caps, horticultural produce like jams and squashes, silver jewellery, rare books, handicrafts like carpets, paintings and metal ware, wooden items like bowls and walking sticks. Leather shoes on order. Local wines and cider.

    Places enroute Shimla - Kalka
  • Parwanoo (87 kms from Shimla) is the southern gateway to Himachal and is an industrial town that has sightseeing places closeby.
  • Kasauli (22 kms from Parwanoo) is a small old world hill station sorrounded by woods that has charming colonial architecture.
  • Barog (56 kms from Shimla) is surrounded by pine wood forests and is a self contained destination resort that lies along the highway
  • Solan (45 kms fro Shimla) is the district headquarters and has several temples.

  • Kalka-Shimla Railway
    The Kalka Shimla train or popularly called toy train runs from Kalka–Shimla covering 96 kms and takes 5 and a half hour. There are 103 tunnels and Barog is the longest one.
