23 kms from Shimla on a spur that extends from the Kufri massif, the Naldehra golf course has been in existence since the early 20th century. It owes its existence to Lord Curzon. The British Viceroy of India who feel in spot with the spot and often camped here for days end. He was so enchanted by the spot that he even named his daughter 'Naldera' after the place. As a significant part of this romance Curzon suggested the layout of a golf course on the site.

The course took shape on totally natural topography which remains unchanged to the present day. Given the point of time when manicured greens took the place of Himalayan grassland this is perhaps the oldest golf course in this part of the world. Designed over a long sloping glade, the Naldhera course is regarded as one of the most challenging ones in the country. This is a par 68 course with nine holes. The yardage of the first round is 2149 and in the repeat nine there are four additionsl greens and different tees which increase the yardage of the second ground to 2370.

The normal calendar of events at Naldhers begins from April and continues into October. Annadale in Shimla has a nine hole Golf course managed by the army, and there is another exquisite glade of Khajjiar in district Chamba. This is 22 kms from Dalhousie and 24 kms from Chamba town. Putting greens are available at serveral resorts and hotels all over the state.

Himachal Pradesh

Capital city - Shimla
Ideal time to Visit - March to June.
Spring (May/June)- You would get lots of snow but roads are at worst, lots and lots of tourists and obviously a costly trip with escalated price.
Monsoon (July/Aug) - Ladakh/Lahaul/Spiti is historically there is no rain but traffic is high.
Autumn (Sep/Oct) - Roads are at the best but almost no snow enroute. Weatherwise I like this season personally the most, the weather after monsoon recedes remain crystal clear with least haze/dust/mist and gives excellent visibility for watching peaks.
Winter (Nov-April) - At your own risk without any tourists, excellent bargain and budget trip is likely. Also for special interest tours like say Chaddar trek of Zanskar, this is the time to go.
