Alight from any train at Jamnagar railway station and you are likely to be treated to the sight of hundreds of flamingoes gracefully wading among the salt marshes outside the station. Welcome to the gateway of the flamingo city. But Jamnagar's greatest attraction is the Marine National Park . The park maintains a hatchery at madhupur near Porbandhar and also some temporary hatcheries on islands near Okhra and Dwaraka.
There are netween 30 to 40 islands on the Jamnagar coast in the Marine National Park, all sorrounded by reefs. The best known islands are Pirotan, Karubhar, Narara and Poshitra.

About Gulf of Kutch
Sunset at these islands especially at pitoran is quite stunning merged with the beautiful colours and hues of the migratory birds like pink flamingoes. An hour;s drive towords west brings you to Narara island connected by a bridge to the mainland. Here you will see large flocks of crab plover and other coastal birds on the white sand beach. Wade into the sea with a naturalist guide as the tide recedes to view the colourful coral reefs in the shallow waters. Most of the beaches along the coast are sandy and muddy or have large sandstone expanses.
Green turtles from as far as Brazil come and breed along the coast of Gulf of Kutch and on the sea shore of Saurashtra. Olive Ridley turtle and Leather Black Turtles visit this area and sightings of dolphins and octopus are not unknown.
